SIMBL is a simple application that enables the possibility to extend the functionality of various programs.

SIMBL is an acronym for Smart Input Manager Bundle Loader. This application allows you to build plugins for Cocoa applications, thus providing more functionality.

The installation of the package is pretty easy unless you already have an older version that's installed. Since it doesn't provide an unistaller, in this case you have to manually remove the older version in order to install a new one.

The installation of the plugins is very simple. All you have to do is to copy the plugins into the following directory: /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins. Please note that this program uses specific plugins that were developed for SIMBL support.

Pluses: it can provide you plugin support for various Cocoa applications.

Drawbacks / flaws: you can install the plugins for a certain user by using the user's own ~/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins.

In conclusion: this application is very useful especially if you can find plugins built for SIMBL that extend the functionality of various applications. If Apple won't include this kind of support in Mac OS, this program looks pretty promising and it has potential for plugin developers.
